About the Fabrics

At Point. Clothing we use a variety of natural and semi-synthetic fabrics, selected for their comfort, durability, and easy care. Each fabric's description and care is listed below.

Rayon

Rayon is made from wood pulp cellulose. The cellulose is broken down using a chemical process to transform it into yarn. Rayon is a semi-synthetic fiber because it is created from natural material, but is broken down using a chemical process. It has similar qualities to natural fabrics, being cool, comfortable and naturally absorbent without absorbing body heat. Rayon is the oldest man-made fiber, commercially available for over 100 years.

Care: Either hand wash or machine wash using the delicate cycle, and then hang dry. Iron using the lowest steam setting if necessary. If you dry rayon in the dryer, it will shrink.

Rayon of Bamboo

Rayon of bamboo is created using the same process as rayon, but using bamboo. Bamboo grows without the use of chemicals or pesticides, and is naturally regenerative. It can grow up to one foot a day. Bamboo fabric is naturally thermal regulating and resistant to mold. Bamboo breathes and wicks moisture away due to its porous nature. Bamboo has an excellent drape and a silky feel.

Care: Either hand wash or machine wash using the delicate cycle, and then hang dry. If you dry rayon in the dryer, it will shrink. Steam or iron using the lowest steam setting if necessary. If you don't have a steamer, the easiest way to get wrinkles out of this fabric is to hang the top and hold your iron upright while pressing the steam button next to your top.

Tencel & Tencel Blends

Tencel is the brand name for the process to create Tencel fabric. It is made with eucalyptus wood pulp cellulose using a closed loop production process, so nearly 100% of the solvent is recovered, and what is not is broken down in water treatment plants. It uses 100 times less water than the production of non-organic cotton. Tencel is extremely absorbent, naturally prevents the growth of bacteria, and is 100% biodegradable.

For Fall I 2010, we're using a blend of 60% Tencel/40% Cotton and 65% Tencel/35% Rayon.

Care: Machine wash warm, tumble dry low. Remove immediately. With the first drying, expect the garment to shrink about 1" in length and 1/2" to 3/4" in width (although the width will relax with wear). Iron at a medium setting with steam if necessary.

Polyester

Polyester is a man-made fiber created during the mid-1900s. It's made out of the same material as plastic drink bottles, polyethylene terephthalate (PET). It is one of the easiest fibers to care for, since it's machine wash and dry and it typically doesn't require ironing.

Care: Machine wash warm and hang dry or tumble dry low, then remove immediately. Iron at a low setting if necessary.
